SanChonino's Articles In Travel

Okay, I'll bore you with another Spain adventure before putting up my newest article - biting political satire!  Yeah, babeh.  It's hott.  Plus, it's nice to actually be writing again.  But hey - this is pretty okay, too. -- 10 Apr 2008.  8:42pm. I awaken, full of energy after a good night's rest, albeit populated with strange renaissance visions.  I quickly bathe myself in the communal washroom and throw on some clothes. I stand in the doorway a...

Straight up, this is a long one.  Sorry, sis.  I didn't want to trim one entry shorter. -- 05 Apr 2008. 10:30pm. Barcelona. We woke up bright and early, showered quickly, and dashed down to the train station in order to catch the 7:00am train.  Sleep sloughed from my eyes like scales as we neared the city, the sun beginning to crest along the water, a carefully constructed vision of pastel pinks, rosy reds, deep oranges and the consummate yellow. We had ar...

(What does that sub-title have to do with anything? Absolutely nothing. And that's why I like it.) Well, I'm finally here. I'm in Spain. It's a strange feeling – this is something I always dreamed about doing, but I never really expected it to happen. I had to move my flight - I was supposed to leave yesterday, but the visa would not have arrived in time. I had to bug the visa department of the Spanish Consulate incessantly. I'm going to miss the first week of school, so I'll be a bit behind when I get there. But all this is okay. All these are hurdles that I'm willing to jump to study in Spain. An...

Yesterday I had to get a haircut. (Basically, my boss/father told me that I get a haircut this week or I look for a new job next week . . . not a tough decision. ) As I sat in the chair in the salon and the cosmetologist molested my head for half an hour, the Rachel Ray show was on. (Yes, I know, she's my sworn nemesis, but what was I gonna do? I gotta keep tabs on the enemy, after all . . .) She had one Kate Hanni on her show, who was trapped on an airplane for 9 1/2 hours without b...

I've really, really wanted to do a semester abroad in Spain for awhile now. Before I started studying spanish lit, I would've told you I wanted to go to Mexico or Argentina, but after learning as much as I have about both spanish and latinoamericana culture, I've decided Spain is the place for me. But - (the BIG but) - I'm so poor it's not even funny. There's no way I could afford tuition, fees, books, room & board, food, and airfare. So last night I was talking to my parents, and s...
