or; semester abroad all-but assured
I've really, really wanted to do a semester abroad in Spain for awhile now. Before I started studying spanish lit, I would've told you I wanted to go to Mexico or Argentina, but after learning as much as I have about both spanish and latinoamericana culture, I've decided Spain is the place for me.
But - (the BIG but) - I'm so poor it's not even funny. There's no way I could afford tuition, fees, books, room & board, food, and airfare.
So last night I was talking to my parents, and said, "Well . . . I wanted to talk to y'all about going to Spain. You see, when Peter was in school, you paid for four semesters of room & board and food for him before he got married. So . . . you've only ever paid for one semester for me. Do you think that maybe you guys could foot the bill for room & board and food and I'll pay tuition, fees, airfare, etc.?"
This was big stuff. Asking my parents for money is something I've never done before. But, Mom said, "Well, you haven't been dating very often lately. If you go on more dates, we'll pay for it."
I was ecstatic! I'm going to be able to go! I'll date anybody if it means I get to go to Spain! I'll go on a date every weekend if that's what it takes!
So that's the plan. Greatly increase my dating to earn passage to Spain. So if all goes as planned, come February I'll be at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Terragona, Spain.
Waa-hoo!!!!!!
