or; semester abroad all-but assured
Published on September 14, 2006 By SanChonino In Travel
I've really, really wanted to do a semester abroad in Spain for awhile now. Before I started studying spanish lit, I would've told you I wanted to go to Mexico or Argentina, but after learning as much as I have about both spanish and latinoamericana culture, I've decided Spain is the place for me.

But - (the BIG but) - I'm so poor it's not even funny. There's no way I could afford tuition, fees, books, room & board, food, and airfare.

So last night I was talking to my parents, and said, "Well . . . I wanted to talk to y'all about going to Spain. You see, when Peter was in school, you paid for four semesters of room & board and food for him before he got married. So . . . you've only ever paid for one semester for me. Do you think that maybe you guys could foot the bill for room & board and food and I'll pay tuition, fees, airfare, etc.?"

This was big stuff. Asking my parents for money is something I've never done before. But, Mom said, "Well, you haven't been dating very often lately. If you go on more dates, we'll pay for it."

I was ecstatic! I'm going to be able to go! I'll date anybody if it means I get to go to Spain! I'll go on a date every weekend if that's what it takes!

So that's the plan. Greatly increase my dating to earn passage to Spain. So if all goes as planned, come February I'll be at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Terragona, Spain.

Waa-hoo!!!!!!

Well that's odd...date people and we'll give you money. Hell, that's about as close to a gigolo that you can get without being called a whore.

Well, hope all goes well....

Yea, dating and money?  They afraid you are going to grow up and become a priest?

Date me! hehehe. I'm sure you'll have girls lined up around the block for the chance, and just as many waving goodbye tearfully as you board that plane. Spain sounds fabulous and I'm sure you'll have a good time and many new adventures.

Well, I have already been sainted, remember . . . "San" Chonino.

Wow...Spain is one of the places I'd love to go to...my last name originates from a town there, and I'd love to visit that town someday.

Best of luck with the dating...I really hope you get to go.

OK, there's some huge irony there. See, if you start dating more, you might get all wrapped up in someone and not WANT to leave. Maybe that's what ma & pa are hoping for

that's exactly what Mom wants, along with the grandkids . . . but it ain't gonna happen. It's close enough to leaving that I won't get too wrapped up . . . I'm going.

Haha, ok I couldn't help but laugh. Your mom is a smart woman! But knowing you, you will get to Spain! Goodluck with it. I'll see if I can send a few 'air fares' your way. Or at least I would if I was close enough to you!!

You'll love Spain, as you already know. My cousin spent a year there and my older cousin went to vacation there also, they both loved it! And brought back lots of pictues, nice place!
