Self-deprecation is worth its weight in smoldering phoenix-ashes and baby unicorn tears.

FIRST OFF: I understand if you don't like my comment and want to delete it; but you should either 1)give me fair warning first, or 2)tell me why you've deleted what I felt was a pertinent comment. (Hey Aeryck, I'm talking to you, ass.)

ON TO THE MAIN EVENT:

Earlier this morning I was listening to a local radio show, Radio From Hell, and they did a poll of some of the listeners that I found absolutely enlightening.

The poll dealt with the music people had on their mp3 players, and what they might be ashamed to admit is on there.

So, JU, I open the question to you all - what music do you like that makes you a bit ashamed?

To put it into context, give us a few examples of your normal listening - a few groups. (For example - a normal playlist of mine would include Rush, Neurosis, 65daysofstatic, Mogwai, Strapping Young Lad, Mastodon - just to name a few.)

Then, spill the beans - tell us what you've got, but are too ashamed to admit! (I've got Kelly Clarkson's new album. Reprehensible, I know . . . but still. This is confession time, after all.)

So get to it! Come to the confessional booth and the Sausage Man, Saint Panties will absolve your sins! Spill it!

The most embarrasing song I have on my ipod would be 'favourite things' from the Sound of music... sure, it is gayer than aids, but seriously, it is one of the most uplifting songs ever... who doesn't like whiskers on kittens? Whenever I am in a bad mood, I can't help but smile at that song..

a) I can't beleive I have it
whiskers on kittens!

My son broke my ipod.   I think I got two or three years of good use from it though. I still have my share of embarassing songs. 80's dancy tunes like - Nasty Boys, Head to Toe, Looking for a New Love. Barbie Girl which I mainly like just because I think its funny to annoy my boys with it. Oh and show tunes. I'm not that girl from Wicked.

I don't have an iPod. But if I did, the entire soundtrack from Cocktail would probably be on it. And lots of Weird Al stuff. And big hits from the 80's. Wham!

I've got some big hair music, by bands like Platinum Blonde, Journey, Poison, Ratt, and Skid Row, but I'm not really embarrassed. The only embarrassing thing is when you can tell what songs I'm listening to. For instance, when "Stayin' Alive"... comes on, I catch myself strutting, instead of walking like a normal human being.

You HAVE to strut to Stayin' Alive. Journey is nothing to be embarrassed about.

Don't be ashamed, Joe. It happens to all of us. Part of me likes it, too.

And try as I might to kill that evil part inside me, the pernicious son-of-a-bitch sticks it out.

I'm pretty sure everything on my iPod is considered embarrassing -- I'm told I have horrible taste in music. But I like it so that is all that matters!

I don't have any shame. I don't have an iPod but I will openly listen to some lame ass stuff.
on Nov 11, 2007
I don't consider any music I listen to lame. Others might, but not me.

But really, what does constitute embarrasing? I really like Robert Palmer, for instance, but not the later tracks, which are, by my definition, lamer than lame. Or how about the Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack? Some consider it particularly lame, but I dig it. Or what about some of the bands I loved in the 80's like The Fixx and Reflexx? A lot might think it lame today but I really dug it back then.

I don't feel guilty about any of the above. Guilt is over-rateds (except if you're a Catholic...)

I have similar stuff to San Chonino. Lots of Rush, Dream Theater, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, you know. I love eighties music.

Embarassing stuff? Um, I have Carmina Burana, but that really just shows that I have sophisticated taste

Um, I guess the Veggie Tales, and the Buffy musical could be considered embarrassing, but I really have no shame when it comes to my music.

That is awesome. I do sing kids songs all the time but I don't have them on my ipod. Oh where is my hairbrush? And Buffy, singing vampire slayer, what's not to love?

I have Donny Osmond's Soldier of Love and I listen to it. There is no help for me.

I forgot about that song. Donny and Marie was my favorite show when I was a little kid. I really thought Donny was rock and roll. I even had Donny & Marie dolls.
